# Install SHINE in ChatGPT

Connect SHINE AI to ChatGPT as a custom connector so you can ask ChatGPT questions grounded in your organization's meetings, calls, and files. Takes about two minutes.

## Before you start

You need:

- A SHINE AI account on a plan that includes MCP access
- A ChatGPT **Business**, **Enterprise**, or **Edu** workspace — custom connectors aren't available on Free, Plus, or Pro personal plans
- Workspace admin permission, or an admin who can enable the connector for you

## Add the connector

1. In ChatGPT, open **Settings → Connectors** (workspace admin view).
2. Click **Create** → **Custom connector**.
3. Fill in:
   - **Name**: `SHINE`
   - **Description**: `Grounded answers over your SHINE AI meetings, calls, and files`
   - **MCP Server URL**: `https://mcp.shineai.io/v1/mcp`
   - **Authentication**: `OAuth`
   - **Icon**: upload [logo.svg](https://docs.shineai.io/logo.svg) (right-click → Save as)
4. Click **Create**. ChatGPT discovers the OAuth metadata and registers a client automatically.
5. Click **Connect**. A sign-in window opens; sign in with your SHINE credentials.
6. Approve the scopes. The connector moves to **Connected**.

## Enable it in a chat

Custom connectors are off by default in new chats:

1. Start a new chat.
2. Click the **+** (tools) button next to the composer.
3. Toggle **SHINE** on.
4. Ask your question.

ChatGPT will call the `search` and `fetch` tools against your corpus and answer with the retrieved context inline.

## Try it

> *"Search our SHINE corpus for anything Brian from Outsell said about pricing."*

> *"Fetch the last three meeting transcripts tagged Trimark and summarize them."*

> *"Find our SOC 2 documentation."*

## What ChatGPT can do with SHINE

ChatGPT uses the two MCP-standard tools:

- **`search`** — semantic search over your corpus; returns a ranked list of result IDs with snippets
- **`fetch`** — retrieve the full content of a specific ID

The richer `shine_ask` and `shine_search` tools are also exposed, and ChatGPT will use them when the query shape fits. See [tools](/mcp/tools/shine_ask) for the full reference.

## Troubleshooting

**"Create custom connector" is grayed out.** Your workspace is on a plan that doesn't support custom connectors (Free/Plus/Pro personal), or your account isn't a workspace admin. Ask your admin, or upgrade to Business/Enterprise/Edu.

**OAuth window closes immediately after sign-in.** Allow popups and third-party cookies for `chatgpt.com` and `mcp.shineai.io`. Open the connector row again and click **Reconnect**.

**"Action discovery failed."** The server was briefly unreachable while ChatGPT was listing tools. Click **Reconnect** on the connector row. If it persists, check [status.shineai.io](https://status.shineai.io).

**Tools don't appear in the + menu.** The connector must be enabled per-chat, per-workspace. Start a new chat, click **+**, and toggle it on.

## Revoke access

1. **In ChatGPT** — Settings → Connectors → SHINE → Disconnect.
2. **In SHINE** — [shineai.io/mcp-api-keys](https://shineai.io/mcp-api-keys) → revoke the OAuth client identified as "ChatGPT".

Do both for a clean break; one side alone leaves a dead reference on the other.
